College Basketball: December Games to Watch

PSR Logo
The college basketball season is underway as local teams finish their non-conference games this month. Will Kevin Stallings re-ignite the Pitt program? Can Jim Ferry recover from losing three seniors at Duquesne? Will Penn State's freshmen class finally produce competitive basketball in State College?

Duquesne Dukes vs. Pitt Panthers
Friday, December 2, 7:00 PM
PPG Paints Arena, Pittsburgh, Pa.
The Dukes will try to snap a 15-game losing streak in the annual City Game. This game will be highlighted by solid point guard play between Pitt's Jamel Artis and Duquesne's Tarin Smith.

West Virginia Mountaineers at Virginia Cavaliers
Saturday, December 3, 2:00 PM on ESPNU
John Paul Jones Arena, Charlottesville, Va.
In an early season out of conference test for both teams, balanced offensive attacks will battle strong defensive prowess. This could be a possible Sweet 16 or Elite 8 matchup.

Duquesne Dukes at Robert Morris Colonials
Tuesday, December 6, 7:00 PM
PPG Paints Arena, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Afer winning five straight over the Dukes, the Colonials will try to avenge a 75-68 loss last season. One player to watch is Isiah Still, an up and rising scorer that could be a candidate for the Northeast Conference Player of the Year.

Penn State Nittany Lions vs Pitt Panthers
Saturday, December 10, 2:30 PM on CBS Sports Network
Prudential Center, Newark, N.J.
These two in-state rivals will meet for the first time since 2013 in the Never Forget Tribute Classic. Ship Garner and Tony Carr for Penn State are sure to give Pitt fits in the backcourt, but can the Nittany Lions handle Mike Young up front?

Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Pitt Panthers
Saturday, December 31, 2:00 PM on the ACC Network
Peterson Events Center Pittsburgh, Pa.
The Panthers open ACC play on New Years Eve when the Irish come to town. Mike Brey's retooled roster is led by Bonzie Colson, who figures to match up Michael Young in a battle of 20-point-per-game scorers.

Josh Bell had not hit a walk-off home run since he was a member of the Altoona Curve in 2015. He changed that Friday with a soaring shot for the left field loonies.
