One of the criteria for the CoGo's High School Sports Unsung Hero award is leadership. Whether it's in the context of sports, academics or in the community, the award honors student-athletes who distinguish themselves as leaders.

Mt. Lebanon senior Marie Erickson fits that description so completely it would seem as if the award was patterned after her.

It's probably appropriate that Ayanna Townsend earned the CoGo's High School Sports Unsung Hero Award as a sophomore.

Townsend, of Winchester Thurston School, likely won't be "unsung" very much longer.

Three WPIAL players were drafted into the NFL this past weekend. Former Pitt wide receiver and Clairton standout Tyler Boyd was the first local player off the board when the Cincinnati Bengals made him their second round pick on Friday night.

Scouts love Boyd’s competitiveness, route-running ability and hands, which make up for his lack of elite speed.
