Running backs Kyle Halterman and Chris Wagner combined for 215 yards to lead Mt. Pleasant to a 42-7 rout over Interstate Conference rival Derry at Vikings Stadium on Friday night.

Halterman scored on an 80-yard run 45 seconds into the first quarter to set the tone for  a Vikings rushing attack that piled up nearly 350 yards on the ground.

The Penn-Trafford Warriors kick off their 2015 season at home Foothills Conference rival Kiski Area Friday night at 7:30.

The Warriors were perfect throughout the regular season last year and muscled through two playoff games before eventually falling in the Quad-A semifinal game.

Penn State is perhaps best-known for being a football powerhouse, but the Nittany Lions’ hockey program, under the direction of of fourth-year coach Guy Gadowsky, is one of the fastest growing hockey programs in the country.

The Nittany Lions transitioned to Division I in 2012, and it has been an accelerated climb since. The 2014-15 season culminated with Gadowsky earning Big 10 coach of the year honors.

There is a baseball player at Louisville who just completed the season with a 9-3 record, 117 strikeouts and a 1.77 ERA in 96.2 innings pitched. There’s also a player who batted .308 with four home runs and 34 RBI in 211 at bats.

The pitcher and hitter are the same guy: Blackhawk High School alumnus Brendan McKay. And this was just his freshman year.

CoGo's is proud to recognize Hempfield Area Senior High School track and field athlete Maddie Holmberg as the June 2015 High School Sports Unsung Hero award recipient.

A little over one year ago, Maddie became the first female from the WPIAL to long jump 20 feet and her jump of 20-1 was seventh best in the country.

Franklin Regional sophomore Spencer Lee has a chance to be considered the best wrestler the WPIAL has seen since his hero, Cary Kolat, won four state titles with an undefeated record of 137-0 at Jefferson-Morgan in the early 90’s.
