Jamel Artis scored 15 of his 22 points before halftime, and the Panthers held off previously unbeaten Maryland 73-59 Tuesday night in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

The Panthers put on a shooting exhibition in the first half before cruising the victory, handing the Terps their first loss of the season.

Mike Young scored 20 points, Jamel Artis had 17 and Cameron Johnson 16 as Pitt limped to a 76-63 win over Morehead State on Friday night at the Petersen Events Center.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, one would have to just give thanks for another Pitt win.

Mike Young had 24 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks and Cameron Johnson hit three straight 3-pointers down the stretch to lead Pitt over Yale 75-70 Tuesday night at the Petersen Events Center.

They did not light up the opponent as Pittsburgh lit up the city on Friday night, but Pitt defeated Marquette in the consolation game of the 2K Classic at Madison Square Garden.

The Panthers trailed by as many as 15 points on Friday, but rallied back to defeat Marquette, 78-75.

Kris Letang scored a goal in overtime to give the Penguins a 3-2 win Friday night against the Islanders in Brooklyn.

Matt Murray got the start in goal for the Penguins. Murray left Wednesday’s game after he took a stick to the face from teammate Evgeni Malkin.

Semi Ojeleye led a second half surge to lift the Southern Methodist Mustangs past the Pitt Panthers 76-67 in the semifinals of the 2K Classic Thursday evening in Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The game turned on a 23-12 run in the first 7:47 of the second half capped off by an Oleleye three pointer to put the Mustangs up 54-45 with 12:13 left.

The ACC figures to become the strongest conference in the country with two Final Four teams (Syracuse, North Carolina) from 2016 as well as the odds on favorite to win the national championship in Duke.

This conference features four Hall of Fame coaches and lot of five star players coming to campuses this fall that will make for another great season in the ACC.

The naked eye saw Pitt knock off a cupcake in Gardner-Webb Monday night. Your average, run-of-the-mill sacrificial lamb beat down in front of an underwhelming home crowd.

Peel back a few layers and those eyes turned ears would notice a watershed moment in the Pitt basketball program in just the second game of the Kevin Stallings era.
